Jason Underberg – Publisher/Founder
Jason Underberg, an entrepreneur from Monmouth County New Jersey, started his career in the entertainment business where he formed his first company at the age of 21. At this time, he formed a D.J. Company named Rhythm Escape and performed at Weddings, Sweet 16’s, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and other functions. Jason mastered the arts of a D.J, M.C. and dancer and continued his career in the industry until the age of 26.
Shortly after his career in entertainment, he moved to Florida in 2006 where he began his career as a publisher. As the Founder of Day and Night Magazine in Tampa, FL, he quickly gravitated to the publishing industry and gained the necessary publishing experience he needed to grow his career. After just six months, he was approached by an investor who saw the potential in his publishing style and was offered a joint venture to form a new publication in the Magazine world. He then decided to pursue the opportunity, thus folding Day and Night in efforts to publish Power Play Magazine (2008). During this time he had interviewed public figures that included Robert Kiyosaki, Oprah Winfrey, and Donald Trump. After just one year of publishing and the collapse of the economy in 2009, Power Play declared bankruptcy and Jason decided to bring his career back to NJ.
Jason moved to Hoboken, NJ, electing to get a “real job” and joined the ADP team in NYC where he would pursue his position in sales and marketing. In less than 60 days, he found himself daydreaming of owning the biggest publication in Hudson County. He then quit his job in 2009 and began working on his next entrepreneurial venture, Hoboken Digest which was set to be the lifestyle magazine of Hoboken. With very little funds and just enough in his bank account for a month’s rent, he needed to get creative. Jason rounded up a group of creative types who believed in his passion for the magazine and would ultimately work on sweat equity in order to kick off the premier issue. He began knocking on doors in efforts to sell the vision on which would become a staple publication in Hoboken, NJ. After just one short year, the Hoboken Digest was a success and he decided to duplicate his vision in Hoboken’s neighboring town, Jersey City, NJ. Jersey City Digest quickly became successful which then lead to the reformation of the magazine. The Digest, a publication that would marry the two brands was put together in 2011 and showed tremendous potential.
Brian Kovener – Publishing Director/Co-Founder
Born and raised in South Florida, Brian moved from Miami to New Jersey in 2016 to partner with Jason in running VUE Magazine and The Digest. Coming from a career in finance and marketing, Brian brings his versatile and unique perspective to the world of publishing.
During his collegiate years, Brian studied at the University of Central Florida (UCF) where he earned his BSBA in Marketing and Interpersonal Communication. During his time at UCF, Brian was heavily involved in Student Government and was a member of Lambda Theta Phi, Latin Fraternity, Inc. Brian was elected President of his chapter with Lambda Theta Phi and helped them win National “Chapter of the Year.” As a former college athlete, Brian would enroll at Florida Atlantic University to earn his Master’s Degree in Sports Management in 2003.
Following his education, he traveled around the country whilst preparing for a role with the PGA Tour, but after a chance meeting in 2005, Brian joined a Wealth Management Team with Morgan Stanley that specialized in working with professional athletes. In addition to passing the Series 7, Series 31, Series 66 and MBA for his new role, he earned his Life, Health and Variable Insurance license to further his understanding of the field.
Throughout the next few years, Brian moved around South Florida in successful roles in the finance industry and had successfully recruited 150 financial advisors. This would lead to a big move to Miami where he became the National Recruiting Director for Investacorp, a Top 50 brokerage firm affiliated with Ladenburg Thalmann. Brian oversaw a team of regional recruiters, helped manage and guide the firm’s marketing efforts and helped function as liaison and central voice for advisors with respect to practice management and business-related issues. In his five-year tenure, Brian helped the firm grow to record revenues (doubling the new business development department year over year) and gain National notoriety. But still, something was missing.
In the Fall of 2015, after attending the inaugural “VUE Launch Party” in New Jersey and over the course of many strategic discussions with Jason, Brian decided to leave Miami and the world of Finance behind him to pursue his entrepreneurial dream and partner with Jason. In just under a year, thanks to the guidance and mentorship of Jason along with a first-class team in Unity Media Group, Brian has successfully transitioned to a new and exciting course in life. Brian has always lived by the motto: “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail…”
